National Championship Success

On the 27th and 28th October 2018 Focus Taekwondo participated in the British Championships, taking a team of 10 athletes over the 2 days.

Focus Taekwondo gained 4 new National medalist, Humairah (Gold), Coby (Silver), Laura (Bronze) and Terri (Bronze).

We can not forget the rest of the team that was apart of the success, Reuben, Ellison, Chris, Lewis, Muhammed and Haleemah. The tournament was spread over 2 days Saturday for the Novice athletes and Sunday was the Advance athletes time to shine.

The tournament was held in Sheffield at the English Institute of sport with over 700 competitors some of which was Team GB members from the Olympic academy.

Beginners thrive at first competition!

Focus Taekwondo took 8 students to the Horizon 1 on 1 match day competition, a competition aimed at beginners! Both the Mixenden and Brooksbank venues had students giving it ago. From the Mixenden venue, Lewis, Ellison, Jorja, Tom and Karen, and from the Brooksbank venue we had Ben, Raymond and Rachel.

This was the last chance this year for the beginners to give competition a go, we had a total of 3 students Rachel, Ellison and Jorja who had never competed before. Then we had 4 Students who have only competed in the 1-5 bracket, Ben, Karen, Tom and Raymond, and then the only experienced fighter was Lewis.  Read more

Focus Taekwondo gain National medalists

Focus Taekwondo gained 4 new National medalist over the Weekend of 16th and 17th September! The team took 6 competitors to the championships and came away with a record 4 medals!

Throughout the year Focus Taekwondo compete in domestic and international competitions on a regular basis, on an average attending competitions at the very least once a month. All these competitions are in the build up for the main event of the year ‘The British National Championships’. Last year we took a team of 6 just like this year but we gained one extra medal! It was also harder this year due to some players moving up age groups, weight groups, and up int the advanced category! Focus Taekwondo Summer Camp

Focus Teakwondo held their first ever summer camp on the 31st July – 4th August 2017. A total of 14 children from the ages of 4-11 years old took part in the camp which was a huge success.

The summer camp was run from Monday 31st July – Friday the 4th August from 9am – 3pm, with activities such as Taekwondo, Little Kickers, Games, Face Painting, Paper Mache, Paining and Arts and Crafts as well as a visit from Halifax West Yorkshire Police for a show and tell the camp was a great success.  Read more

Byron in with a ‘Fighting Chance’

On Saturday 29th July Assistant Coach Byron Travelled down to Manchester where the Olympic National Taekwondo Centre in based. Byron was accepted into the first stage of the junior Fighting Chance program where he had to have private competitive match against another opponent who was also bidding for the a place in stage 2! 

Byron was the 4th match on so had to prepare fairly quick and drew a very strong WTF Taekwondo club Gurumu Taekwondo from London who are also a GB Talent club! Byron started strong and took an early lead, one he never dropped finally winning the contest 12-5. Read more

Hard work pays off at the Dome open

On Sunday the 11th June Focus Taekwondo took a team of 4 to the Doncaster Dome Open hosted by All Stars Taekwondo. From the 4 competitors the team managed 2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals!

Chris, Byron, Mason and Lewis all competed and everyone put in good performances with a lot of positives to take back to training to work on. The day defiantly belonged to Mason though securing his first win in a while!  Read more

100% pass rate on largest grading to date!

On the 3rd and 4th June Focus Taekwondo held their busiest grading to date with a 100% pass rate! From the 2 venues at Focus Taekwondo including the little kickers program 32 students graded for their next belts.

Head of Examination at Focus Taekwondo and Brooksbank coach Stephen Cocker took the grading and Founder of Focus Taekwondo and Mixenden coach Chris Cocker along with assistant coach Byron was also on the grading examination panel, with Junior assistant coach Mason demonstrating for the candidates.  Read more

Medal Haul at The Yorkshire Championships.

On Sunday the 14th May Focus Teakwondo took a team of 5 to the Yorkshire Championships at Richard Duuns Sport Centre in Bradford. Out of 5 competitors the team brought away 5 medals with 2 new Yorkshire champions!

The team consisted of Chief instructor Chris Cocker, Assistant coach Byron Smith, Assistant Junior coach Mason Kelly, Lewis Cocker and Natasha-Jayne Wilkinson. Medals: Gold for Chris and Byron, And Bronze for Lewis, Mason and Natasha.  Read more

Brooksbank Assistant Coach Fiona Promoted to Second Dan

On Saturday 13th May Focus Taekwondo Brooksbank Assistant Coach Fiona Cocker was promoted to Second Dan Black belt at the Warrior Factory Dan Promotion test in Leeds.

Fiona was preparing attend the British Dan Promotion test in Nottingham at the beginning of April, But due to an injury she had on her wrist she had to postpone her training for the Dan Promotion.
